E.L. Haynes believes that families are integral to student success. E.L. Haynes values all of our families and looks forward to hearing, sharing, and understanding aspects of
every family’s experiences, languages, and culture in order to ensure success for every student. Families are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education at school and to
think of themselves as full partners in their child’s education.
There are many ways for families to engage at E.L. Haynes.
Become a Room Parent!
If you’re an organized, social person looking for more involvement in your child’s classroom, we need you! As a Room Parent, your role would be to help coordinate additional support for the teachers, encourage family participation, and help families get to know each other outside of the school. Volunteer!
Examples of family involvement opportunities include, but are not limited to:
- Celebrating Student Work - join us for choir concerts, dance performances, and classroom culminating events to learn more about the work your student is doing and to celebrate his or her achievements.
- Supporting Your Child’s Academic Progress - join us for Back to School Nights, Parent/Teacher Conferences, and other activities to understand your child's academic needs and ways to support them.
- Building Community - visit our students in community circle, participate in class potlucks, game nights, heritage celebrations, family picnic, etc.
- Strengthening Families - we hold periodic workshops to support families to build parenting and financial literacy skills and link families to community resources.
- Supporting Classrooms and the School - we need family help to chaperone field work trips, volunteer in classrooms, participate in school clean up days, support fundraising events and activities, and serve as room parents.
