Students deserve to learn from a diverse corps of exceptional, committed, and innovative teachers. We need these outstanding teachers at E.L. Haynes, throughout DC and across the nation. In order to meet this critical need, E.L. Haynes developed its Teaching Fellows Program. Through this program, Haynes hires Teaching Fellows to work alongside outstanding lead teachers. Through this experience as well as extensive professional development and teacher certification, Teaching Fellows gain the skills necessary to become exceptional teachers themselves and are ready to serve students at E.L. Haynes or in schools across the city. Fellows are part of the program for anywhere from one to three years. They build their teaching skills with hands-on experience working alongside an outstanding lead teacher who acts as partner and mentor in the Fellowship program. Fellows engage in extensive on- and off-site professional development. Professional development encompasses such critical topics as literacy, using interim assessments, math, and Responsive Classroom (our social curriculum). They also participate in on-site professional development bi-weekly, have one week of intensive professional development each school year, and also attend workshops and conferences across the country. In addition, all Teaching Fellows are enrolled in American University’s AQUE Teaching Certification Program. To learn more about how you can become a Teaching Fellow, email Eric Westendorf at ewestendorf@elhaynes.org. |
