In June 2008, E.L. Haynes opened the doors of its new permanent home at 3600 Georgia Avenue, NW.

The new 46,000 square foot building is designed to serve 450 students. The facility has large and bright classrooms, each with a wall of windows.  The building also has a beautiful gymnasium, cafeteria and dedicated rooms for science, art and music.

The facility includes numerous break-out spaces for small groups of students to meet, whether for English language learning, specialized instruction, team projects, or counseling. Hub spaces feature books, resources, and space for collaborative work among students.

For this project, E.L. Haynes assembled an exceptional team, partnering with facilities planners Brailsford and Dunlavey, architects Shinberg.Levinas, and Forrester Construction to execute the planning, design, and construction of the school. Each team member is award-winning in their own field, and each brings a wealth of experience in creating innovative schools.

E.L. Haynes is thankful to the many partners who provided financial support for the project:

  • Bank of America
  • Boston Community Capital
  • Building Hope
  • City First Bank of DC
  • DC's Office of the State Superintendent of Education and Office of Public Charter School Financing and Support
  • Low-Income Investment Fund
  • Nationwide
  • The Reinvestment Fund
