DEVELOPING HUMAN CAPITAL

E.L. Haynes has been nurturing teaching talent through its own Teaching Fellows Program since opening our doors in 2004. In 2009, E.L. Haynes joined forces with charter management organization KIPP DC to create the Capital Teaching Residency (CTR) program. CTR trains residents who work alongside exceptional lead teachers for one year and, through that experience, extensive professional development and teacher certification, gain the skills necessary to become exceptional teachers ready to serve students in schools across DC.

In 2012, the U.S. Department of Education selected CTR to be one of 16 winners from a field of 372 applicants to receive support through the national Race to the Top funding initiative. A $10 million grant will help train 415 highly effective teachers by 2017 and support key technology initiatives designed to help teachers personalize instruction to improve student outcomes.

For more information on the program, visit the official website at www.capitalteachingresidency.org.
