E.L. Haynes High School at Kansas Avenue
Like the students at E.L. Haynes Public Charter School, the school itself is constantly growing. This construction journal will track progress on a daily basis as the building rises up out of the ground and fills in with plumbing, wires, floors and everything else.
The first floor of the new building will have a large, light-filled lobby, a large double-height cafe with its own outdoor terrace, an office and professional development suite, and stairs down to the huge gymnasium, which will reach from the basement level all the way up to the ceiling of the first floor.
Down in the basement, besides the gymnasium and health/fitness facility, there will be an art room and a music room, as well as additional office space.
Students will spend most of their academic days up on the second floor, where there will be seven classrooms, a senior science lab, a computer lab, a large open area known as the "think tank," and workspace for teachers (as well as the Principal's suite).
Finally, in a small area up on the third floor, there will be an Advanced Placement chemistry lab and an AP biology lab, as well as a large outdoor learning space and an expansive green roof.
We'll be describing each of these spaces in more detail as they take shape in the building from month to month. Check back often! Sometimes the journal gets updated from day to day!
