Visit our month-by-month Construction Photo Journal. In July 2006, E.L. Haynes purchased property at 3600 Georgia Avenue, NW, to build its future home. It is less than two blocks from the Petworth Metro Station and only 8 blocks from our current school site. The new 46,000 square foot building will serve 468 students in grades Pre-K to 8. The building will have large classrooms and windows, and will provide ample space for our elementary and a middle school programs. In addition to two classrooms for each grade, the building will also have a large cafeteria/auditorium space and a middle school regulation-size gymnasium. The facility will also have a state-of-the-art science laboratory, as well as, art and music rooms. The architectural design of the new facility includes numerous break-out spaces for small groups of students to meet, whether for English language learning, specialized instruction, team projects, or counseling. Hub spaces for both the elementary and middle school programs will feature books, resources, and space for collaborative work among students. For this project, we have assembled an exceptional team. E.L. Haynes has partnered with facilities planners Brailsford and Dunlavey, architects Shinberg.Levinas, and Forrester Construction to execute the planning, design, and construction of our school. Each team member is award-winning in their own field, and each brings a wealth of experience in creating innovative schools. We are proud to be partners with them in this endeavor.
