E.L. Haynes’ educational philosophy is to adopt and adapt proven programs and strategies to drive student achievement.  Our program of effective practices, coupled with a strong culture of accountability and a focus on results, ensure the success of every student.

Key facets of our program include:

• An outstanding teacher for every student, every year. E.L. Haynes has a rigorous hiring process and only engages the very best teachers. Additionally, we are a professional learning community and our teachers continuously engage in a wide variety of job-embedded professional development opportunities targeted to their specific areas for support and growth. In order to ensure the availability of the highest quality teachers, we develop new exceptional teaching talent through our Teaching Associates Program.
• Extensive educational programming outside of school hours. In addition to the mandated 1,200 hours of education that every DC student receives, E.L. Haynes students have access to an additional 1,000 education and enrichment hours through our before-school, after-school, and Intersession programs. Every student who qualifies for free or reduced price lunch can attend these programs free of charge.
• A data-driven program. Through ongoing student assessments and carefully-developed systems, E.L. Haynes tracks and promotes growth for every one of our students. Because of our rigorous attention to data and our “data into action” approach, we can ensure that every student succeeds and will be ready to attend the college of his or her choice upon graduation from E.L. Haynes.
