- In 2010, 69% of E.L. Haynes students scored proficent or advanced in math and 67% scored proficient or advanced in reading on the DC-CAS, outpacing DC Public Schools’ scores of 43% in math and 43% in reading.

E.L. Haynes’ oldest students, who were 7th graders in 2009-10, are proof that the PK-12 model works. In 2010, 86% of 7th graders scored proficient or advanced in math; 70% scored proficient or advanced in reading. These students outperformed the average DC scores for 7th grade of 40% proficient in math and 43% proficient in reading.

- E.L. Haynes has demonstrated outstanding four-year gains on the DC-CAS of 39 percentage points in math and 27 percentage points in reading. Statewide gains for the same period are 16 percentage points in math and 7 percentage points in reading.
- In 2010, for the third year in a row, E.L. Haynes was named the recipient of a Silver-Gain Award through New Leaders for New Schools’ Effective Practice Incentive Community (EPIC) grant program. The award, given in recognition of outstanding student achievement gains in 2009, ranked E.L. Haynes in the top of a consortium of more than 150 charter schools nationwide. Two E.L. Haynes teachers – Andrea Smith (6th grade math) and Kate Linneman (6th grade literacy) were given Spotlight Awards for the outstanding gains of their students.
- In April 2010, E.L. Haynes Fifth Grade Science Teacher Nate Franz was chosen from all DC Charter School Teachers as the Washington Post’s Agnes E. Meyer Outstanding Teacher of the Year.
- In April 2008, E.L. Haynes chosen from DC’s 56 charter schools as the first-ever winner of Fight for Children’s Quality Schools Initiative Award..
- In 2008-2009, more than 120 educators, education policy experts, and education leaders visited E.L. Haynes for school tours, classroom observations, and to learn more about our effective practice model. More than 275 Teach for America Corps Members and 50 presenters spent five hours on six Saturdays engaging in professional development at E.L. Haynes. E.L. Haynes held three Teacher Leadership Series events, which were attended by 140 teachers and educational professionals from more than 50 DC public, public charter, and private schools and other organizations.
- In January 2010, E.L. Haynes 5th, 6th, and 7th grade students presented two outstanding performances of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.
