At E.L. Haynes we celebrate and learn from our differences. We believe diversity has value; that diversity — of race, gender, home language, and economic background — is the surest way to prepare students to become full-engaged and responsible citizens in a country that is itself increasingly and richly diverse.

We work hard to ensure a diverse student body (and staff).
In the 2006-2007 school year:

• 47% of our students were African-American
• 31% Latino
• 19% Caucasian
• 3% Asian

In addition, 66% of Haynes students qualify for free or reduced lunch and 26% are English Language Learners. While 60% of Haynes students come from Ward 1, from the neighborhoods closest to the school, we have students from every Ward in the city.
