We are Looking for Parents to Join the E.L. Haynes Board of Trustees
The E.L. Haynes Board of Trustees is seeking an E.L. Haynes parent or guardian to fill an open board seat beginning July 1, 2018. As part of our charter and our mission, our family community is a critical part of our stewardship of the school. If you did not know, The E.L. Haynes Board is made up of individuals – including parents of E.L. Haynes students – who bring a variety of skills and perspectives to their role as trustees.
The Board of Trustees sets broad school policies for the educational program, student discipline, personnel, and organizational performance. The board oversees the process of facilities acquisition, building, and renovation. We guide the school’s efforts in fundraising, community relations, and external affairs. Currently, we have 15 board members with diverse skills and backgrounds, including three E.L. Haynes parents: Theodore Smith (Samuel Smith-8th), Michael Hall (Isaiah-12th, Sam-10th and Eli-6th) and Abigail Smith (Henry-8th).
As always, we seek to increase the diversity of the Board so that the members represent our student body; expand our expertise in science, technology, and math; provide additional insights to our broader impact strategy and initiatives; and increase our capacity in communications, external relations, and community engagement. While parent Trustees do not act as representatives of the parent body, they bring an important perspective as an E.L. Parent/Guardian Trustees serving for a three-year term.
You must have a student enrolled in the school to serve as a Parent/Guardian Trustee. In addition to attending monthly Board meetings, Parent/Guardian Trustees can expect to contribute an average of four to eight hours per month for Board work, which includes communicating the Board’s work to the larger Haynes community, working toward 100% family participation in fundraising activities, and attending school events. The Parent/Guardian Trustee must strongly support the Haynes mission of preparing all our children for college and the larger world.
As a parent, you play an important role at the school. We hope you will consider serving on the Board! If you are interested, please contact one of us below. Or fill out the nomination and interest form below so we can get a better sense of who you are and how we can follow up with you. We will be soliciting interest until January 31st, 2018.
