E.L. Haynes has been selected to join the Capital AI Education Collective, a citywide group of educators, government leaders, nonprofits, universities, and business partners working together to shape the responsible use of AI in DC schools.
E.L. Haynes is one of only three charter school organizations represented. CEO Toni Barton will serve on the Collective’s Teaching and Learning Strategic Council, alongside leaders from D.C. education organizations and agencies.
This opportunity builds on Barton’s participation in the Google–ASU+GSV Education Innovation Fellowship, where she was the first education leader from Washington, DC, selected for the fellowship.
Through the Collective, E.L. Haynes will have a voice in decisions that affect students, educators, and families across DC. We will advocate for AI approaches that strengthen teaching and learning, protect student privacy, promote equity, and keep educators’ professional judgment at the center.
Our focus remains clear: helping students read deeply, write frequently, think critically, and build strong knowledge across subjects. As AI changes how we access and create information, these foundational skills are more important than ever. We are proud to help shape a thoughtful approach to AI that puts students and learning first.
