The Future of Haynes

E.L. Haynes is seeking permission from the DC Public Charter School Board to increase enrollment in our Elementary School. We want more students to join us in Elementary School to ensure that they are ready for middle and high school – and beyond.  Currently, we have fewer students in our Elementary School – about 50 per grade – than our Middle and High Schools, which have about 100 per grade.

Our goal is to increase per-grade enrollment in the Elementary School to ~100 per grade by 2036-37, matching grade sizes in 6-12.

We are excited to have found a great facility that can be configured to meet our needs – right in our current neighborhood! This 90,000 square foot building can address the space constraints and other issues facing our current facilities. And it also offers us the opportunity to rethink and reimagine our campuses. We want to think big about what we need and want for our learning community.

No final decisions will be made about the design or use of this space, however, until we have heard from our community. During 2026-27, we will focus on listening, imagining, designing, and sharing possibilities.
